Top 5 things I wish I would have known before becoming a surrogate
Surrogacy has so many special moments but also has its ups and downs. So, looking back here are the top things I wish I would have known before my surrogacy journey.
I wish I would have known how much pressure I was going to feel waiting for the pregnancy test result. You can tell yourself that you don’t have control over the positive or negative result, but when it comes down to it you do feel an immense amount of pressure. The thought of a negative pregnancy test just felt soul-crushing and I was surprised by that feeling.
I wish I would have realized how quickly the compensation money can “disappear” so that I could have planned a little more strategically on what to do with it.
I wish I would have known that not everyone thinks surrogacy is amazing. I lived in a bubble because I also worked in a fertility center, where surrogacy was this amazing gift. It wasn’t until I was a surrogate myself that I would encounter people in the “outside” world that didn’t always see it as this beautiful thing.
I wish I would have known how quickly it would all be over so I could have savored the precious moments a little bit more.
My biggest takeaway after my first journey was, I wish I would have started sooner! I could have helped more families but I waited until I was 39 so I was only able to do 2 journeys before I felt like I was past my pregnancy years.
